What Was Your Inspiration For This Song?

"I love nature and find a lot of inspiration and peace there. When I wrote this song I was feeling low and lonely but by being present and observing my surroundings I was able to transform my mood and attitude into one of optimism and hope. I appreciate the symbolism of prayer flags, that the wind blows the prayers written on them to heaven. With that in mind the lyrics of the chorus were inspired "let my heart wave like a flag, blown in the current that moves all things.. up in a gust as our prayers are lifted on its wings"

"My friend described by voice in the chorus as being exuberant. I hope that the song can transfer that excitement and feeling of being uplifted to the listener."

What Is This Song About?

"This track is mostly about emerging from the haze of a past relationship and rediscovering yourself again. I often write about heartache, but have never really covered what comes after; clarity, hope, and the idea that broken hearts still beat just fine."

What Was Your Inspiration For This Song?

"One of my favorite things to do on weekends is to wake up early, put on a pot of coffee, and then go back to sleep while it brews. It was a Saturday in January of 2020 (before things started going south) and I was whistling what would become the main melody line when it started raining. I thought “how artsy of me would it be to write a song about this right now” and what was supposed to be a joke about living my “brooding artist” stereotype turned into this song."

"College parties, I suppose? It's a somewhat ubiquitous narrative within our culture, I think. The song simply captures its energy in a new light and with some fresh perspective."

"I got the tune stuck in my head one day on my way home from the bar and drafted a demo when I got home. I introduced it to the Spaugy brothers when we started Age Nowhere about 4 years ago. We've been playing the song live ever since."

DAYTON, Ohio (SOUND VALLEY) - Kyleen Downes’ full length album ‘Come On Sit Down’, recorded over the entirety of 2019, will not be delayed by COVID-19.   It will continue with it scheduled independent release on June 12^th 2020.  ‘Come On Sit Down’ is Kyleen’s third studio effort and shows her taking more risks musically and getting more intimate lyrically. 

The thought behind the title of the album is to invite the listener to sit down and have a conversation about what keeps us going in life.  Our need to vent frustrations, celebrate vulnerability, find peace in loss and how to keep a levity about it all.  The album finds itself at home in the indie folk rock category which allows for a touch of twang and a little classic rock flair.

Kyleen has always exhibited her high energy side and it’s in full force on tracks like ‘Give Up the Ghost’ and ‘Last Drop’ but this album welcomes her calmer, introspective side as well with tracks like ‘All My Life’ and ‘Drained’.  Listeners will also ...

What was the inspiration for "Waterwell"?

"The song was inspired by some of our favorite midwest emo bands. The song has a lot of melody and is backed by all the emotions that come with losing a friend you weren’t ready to lose."

What’s the song about?

"The lyrics came from a very reflective place and hit a few commons themes. The whole song is looking back at a toxic point in time wishing you would have done something or anything differently in a situation where you were losing a friend. We hope listeners get a feel for the new direction we are taking with our music. We want them to feel like we’re the same band as before just revamped and better than ever.
